The Art of Chasing Numbers

Updated: Aug 7

Let's talk about something close to my heart – chasing numbers, or as we know it, billing. It's a thrilling ride, isn't it? The rush of exceeding those targets, the adrenaline of closing and getting approval on jobs. But, like all good things, there's a flip side to the coin.

For me, chasing numbers is more than just a job; it's a passion. It's the heartbeat of our business, the lifeline that keeps the lights on and the creative juices flowing. There’s nothing quite like the satisfaction of meeting your targets, and knowing that your efforts are driving the company forward.

Creating Balance

It's a bit like a sport – you train hard, play hard, and celebrate those wins. Each number hit is a testament to our strategy, dedication, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. It brings a sense of achievement and fuels the drive to keep pushing boundaries and breaking barriers.

However, in the heat of the chase, we can sometimes lose sight of what truly matters, quality.

It's all too easy to push a job over the line just to ensure we bill, but what happens to the work itself? Rushed projects, missed details, and compromised standards can tarnish our reputation and client relationships.

The pressure to hit targets can lead to shortcuts, and those shortcuts can cost us dearly in the long run. A campaign that isn't well thought out or executed can backfire, impacting not just our clients, but also our own credibility and future opportunities. It’s a delicate balance, one that requires constant attention and a commitment to excellence.

While I'm a salesperson at heart, I've learned that there's more to this game than just numbers. It's about building relationships, delivering value, and ensuring that every project we complete is a testament to our dedication and expertise.

We need to remember that our clients aren't just numbers; they're partners and our success is intertwined with theirs. Yes, hitting targets is crucial, but so is maintaining the quality and integrity of our work. It's about going beyond the immediate gains and focusing on long-term success and sustainability. After all, a happy client is a returning client, and their satisfaction can lead to more opportunities and growth for us.

So, what's the takeaway here?

Chase those numbers, absolutely but don't let the pursuit of billing overshadow the importance of quality. Let’s strive to be more than just number chasers. Let's be the standard-bearers of excellence in everything we do. Let's remember that our work is not just about hitting targets but creating meaningful, impactful, and lasting impressions. It's about setting the bar high and keeping it there, consistently delivering work that we can be proud of and that our clients will praise.

Remember, it's not just about hitting the target; it's about how you hit it.
